Vets3 opened their home season at Rosières with a riotous 6–3 victory over RACB Entente, a match that began in commotion and ended in flourish, as though the afternoon itself had first stumbled into disorder before discovering its rhythm. In a 4-2-3-1 shape, and without an official referee, Vets3 nonetheless found order enough in the tumult, with Kevin Lodge stepping in to officiate and the side welcoming Simon Fallon, Tommy Sejersen and Adnane Ahmidan for their first appearances of the season.

The scoring came early and often. After ten minutes, a corner from Milan Sverepa was met by Roger Waite, who rose and headed home to give Vets3 the lead. Yet Entente answered almost at once, profiting from confusion in the home defence, and soon after the two sides were locked in a breathless exchange of blows. Cian Rice restored the advantage by finishing a rebound from Sverepa’s saved shot, but Entente levelled again through a swift attacking move. Then came one of the day’s bright eccentricities: from a corner only half-tamed by circumstance, Simon Fallon improvised beautifully, flicking the ball over his own head and over the goalkeeper for 3–2. Entente, however, would not be denied and equalised once more at 3–3, their dangerous forwards continuing to trouble the Vets3 back line.

At that point Vets3 altered their shape in defence. Full backs Pietro Tomassetti and Alex Knott had comfortably stifled any dangers coming from the flanks, so Agerti Galo dropped deeper in the centre to contain the attacking threat, and from that adjustment came a steadier command of the contest. Before half-time Vets3 regained the lead when Rice and Adnane Ahmidan combined neatly, Rice delivering the cross for Fallon to tap in his second. Though Entente threatened early in the second half, Tommy Sejersen, Benoit Priest and Waite helped preserve the advantage, and as the game wore on Vets3’s superior fitness began to press its argument with increasing authority.

The fifth goal captured that growing control: Fallon won possession near halfway, released Rice down the wing, and the return ball was perfect for Fallon to slide in and complete his hat-trick. A further Rice goal was then ruled out for offside after good work from Sverepa and Fallon, but the home side were no longer in danger of losing their grip. Substitutes Oleg Kazakov and Hugh Gallagher were introduced to help see the game through, and with the final kick Carl Ledbury ran on to a long pass from Waite and delicately chipped the advancing goalkeeper to make it 6–3, sealing a victory at once exuberant and emphatic.

It was a match of swerves, collisions, recoveries and revelations: a first home fixture that began like a quarrel and ended like a celebration. Fallon’s hat-trick, Rice’s creative influence, Waite’s towering header and Ledbury’s elegant final touch gave the scoreline its shape, but just as important was Vets3’s ability to think their way through danger, adjusting tactically when Entente’s forwards threatened to turn the afternoon against them. Their coach, reflecting afterwards, praised both the attacking abundance and the side’s tactical response, judging that they had rewarded those who came to watch with a performance rich in goals and spirit.
