Before the game even started, an important decision had to be made. We were offered a choice of changing room 14 or 16. Nico, showed his leadership qualities and decided to go for changing room 14. This number happened to coincide with his shirt number so surely this was a sign that we were off to a great start! Another positive sign was Nico’s underpants, but I won’t spoil the fun and I’ll let him tell you the story himself.
Once in the changing room a floral scent propagated itself throughout. As the shirts were handed out it was now clear where this smell was coming from: the kit! Thank you Kosta for washing the kit and making us all smell so wonderful!
Once dressed, we headed out of the changing room to warm up on a small patch of mud and sand. In these circumstances, I think we should follow Daniele’s lead and warm up in the changing room…
The game hadn’t even started and yet another important decision had to be made, with Victor running late, we didn’t want to risk starting with 10 men. Nico and Charlie concerted and decided that Simon would start in his place.
KICK OFF
We began the game strongly and we clearly dominated in the first 10-15mins; However, this domination was short lived, and we lost our rhythm. Azur was the first team on the scoresheet. A first shot blocked by our goalkeeper Damien which then ricocheted into the feet of an Azur player who found the back of the net. Azur 1-0 RBBFC2.
The rest of the 1st half was rather uneventful with neither side really dominating. The quality in the last third let us down and we were unable to create any real chances for Kosta or Charlie.
Sadly, Sjoerd had to come off just before half time with an ongoing injury, replaced by Takou.
HALF TIME
We started the second half straight out of the blocks, Reynald dribling the ball down the left wing leaving his man for dead and crossing the ball into the box, all Oliver had to do was direct the ball on target. Azur 1-1 RBBFC2.
We barely had time to finish celebrating when Azur came on the attack. Taking it down the right wing, the ball was passed into the box and a shot was fired which found the far-left corner. Azur 2-1 RBBFC2.
With about 25mins left, Azur thought it would be a good idea to start time wasting. This only motivated us to double our efforts and press on.
Erwan, Jonas and Nico did well to keep the danger at bay and distribute the ball out to the wings. Chances came for both Reynald and Oliver but the ball just didn’t want to find the back of the net.
We pressed on and Oliver finally managed to put a decent cross in which found Charlie at the back post, who netted his 100th club goal with his head. It must have been on his mind (pun intended) Azur 2-2 RBBFC2.
Not long after we scored a very similar goal with a cross coming from Oliver and clinical Charlie there again, towering over the Mega buvette and heading the ball into the back of the net. Goal 101 for Charlie. Azur 2 – 3 RBBFC2.
Azur tried to fight back but to no avail.
The final nail in their coffin was an error coming from the keeper who wondered a little too far from his goal and passed it to Alfonso. Seeing the opportunity Alfonso hit it first time, finally the Azur fans were silent, everyone on the pitch stopped to watch the ball linger in the air and ultimately find the back of the net. Azur 2-4 RBBFC2.
Great fighting spirit to come back into the game twice and ultimately win the game "comfortably”.
GAME OVER!
