After last week's first point, Vets2 back came to Rosieres in confident mood. Jamie was back for his first game of the season in goal, and Simon and Thierry also came in. It was also good to see newly re-registered Gianluca with us again - this week as delegue.

Starting in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Simon up top, and Mikey in the number-10 role with Nic and Costa wide, we did OK for the first 10 minutes. Carl and Gustave provided their usual solid defense in central midfield, protecting Ian and Roger in the middle (with their big, fast centre forward) and Cedric and Milan coping with their wingers.

We never really got going, however. And as the half went on, we seemed to get worse and worse, giving the ball away as soon as we got it. After 20 minutes they took a deserved lead. From an unnecessary corner, their big centre forward got a free header - and the ball was in the back of the net before we could do anything. 0-1.

On those rare occasions when we did hang on to the ball, we weren't able to create any serious chances. In the last 10 minutes of the first half, however, we tightened things in midfield and succeeded in holding our own until half time.

The second half was a different story. Was it the half-time team talk, the arrival of George down the middle, the fact that they were playing against the sun, or the fact they made 3 substitutes? Probably a combination of all of those, but from the outset we were much the better team in the second half. We were able to contain their attacking threat comfortably - apart from their 2-3 corners, where they always posed a threat. Going forward, Nic and George in particular posed their defence with enormous problems and Gustave was able to show his class in the middle of the park. It seemed only a matter of time before we equalised.

Sure enough, after 15 minutes, we got our just reward - although it came from a slightly unexpected source. Route one. From one failed attack of theirs, Jamie got the ball and sent an enormous kick downfield, over half-way. By the second bounce it was on the edge of their penalty area, where George bravely challenged for the ball with their keeper and a defender. For the second week in a row, from almost the same place, Nic was on hand to put away the leftovers. 1-1.

Azur had not given up, and a direct free kick from just outside the box needed a good save from Jamie. It was then that we made our final substitution, bringing on Thierry. And from then on, we got regular free kicks and corners, so that he could pump those wonderful crosses into the box. This gave us the upper hand, and we were confident that one of us would eventually get on the end of one of them. Ian went close, Simon had a chance. But it was not to be. In fact, Azur nearly showed us how to do it - again. With their last corner of the game, their midfielder again got up to win the header and send it towards the top corner. Thankfully Cedric was there and managed to get up well to clear the danger.

Speaking after the game, the coach said: "Because we were so poor in the first half, I suppose we should be happy with a point. And of course there was Cedric's header off the line close to the end. At the same stage, with our dominance in the second half - and those wonderful crosses from Thierry, I'm a bit disappointed we didn't win. Anyway, we're now out of the relegation zone. If we keep playing like this, we'll be mid-table in a few weeks' time."

The post-match ballot saw Man of the Match votes for Milan, Gustave and Jamie, and wide recognition for Cedric's point-saving header. But he was just pipped with the final vote by goalscorer Nic.
