Vets lose lead and valuable 3 points in last ten minutes against old rivals LTC
After a proper spanking of the league’s bottom team the week before (7-0), VETS1 were full of confidence for their match against the mighty LTC who have always provided a tough opposition over the years.
After a good start to the match, and some quality exchanges in the midfield between Legere and Rice, debutant Mustapha Belalij - fit as a regular RBBFC 2 player - beat his opponent and gave the perfect pass behind the defenders. Hitman Moreuil just had to dribble the goalie before rolling the ball in to the empty goal. 1-0 after 10 min.
Maybe we thought it’s going to be an easy one and we unconsciously decreased the pressure but LTC began to build up their game and became dangerous. From a long ball, their quick striker managed to out-run our defenders and to beat Sejersen from close range.
At least, this helped the VETS1 to refocus and to get back some intensity. And after some good pressure from Ledbury and Knight, the opposition had no choice but a sloppy pass to their goalie who could only kick / pass the ball to Christmas who had a go from 50 yards, as you do! His shot was slightly deflected and wrong-footed the keeper. Top scorer Moreuil, ever alert, swooped to guide the ball in to the back of the net. 2-1 at half time. Quite lucky, in all honesty.
LTC decided to change their shape and to add a second striker to put more pressure in the second half. Christensen, Criado and Cabaret did not seem to be that bothered and managed quite well to repel the opposition. VETS1 managed to get a few counter attacks thanks to the stamina brought by Levionnais and Duvnjak who had come on. Unfortunately, the last pass or the last kick was not precise enough.
We thought we will hold it till the end but 10 minutes before the final whistle, LTC managed to level the score after a cross from the left and a lucky deflected shot in the 6 yards box. 2 minutes after, they even scored a third goal – pretty much a copy of the second, except it came from the right this time.
Quite disappointing as it would have been a good step to secure our presence in the first division next season but a good lesson for the upcoming matches. We must score when we have an opportunity and we should try to keep the ball more and not defend too deep. Allez!
