As it happens sometimes, the battle started way before the game. Even before the light rose on a beautiful Saturday. It was not a battle for midfield possession, nor a battle for points, nor even a battle on the pitch. It was a battle to find a goal keeper. Romain? Abroad. JB? Abroad and injured. Totti? Away. Jayson? At his wedding. Luc?Injured. As a consequence all the teams were fighting to find a volunteer to help them. So what solution could be left for the 2nds? Well the first of all the absolute last choices was your reporter, wearing gloves for the second time only in more than 140 games with RBBFC, for the second time… in the same month!
Hopefully building up a team hasn’t been such a nightmare as finding someone to wear the gloves. The squad was strong. And strong it needed to be as this Saturday wasn’t any given Saturday. Today was derby day! British United was coming to our home for one of the most expected game in the season, when we have the chance to be in the same group than our best enemies. As Richard Did you ever see me smile McGeehan said in his encouragement email "It’s a derby, play hard, match them physically and your football will win through”. And those words were those of our captain Tarik Assassinin the changing room, reminding us of the previous generations of RBBFC players who fought with British United for the last decades, some of them being there at Rosières to watch the game and support us.
As the game started the visitors were the ones showing more stamina and appetite, creating few opportunities in a couple of minutes. Two times their striker came in between the defenders to try its chance, denied by the iron gloves found in the kit. The spirit of El Capitano* will live long after he’s gone and he will never be forgotten. And on a long ball the occasional keeper had to get the ball in the feet of an opponent. Under the clamor of the 1sts players, drinking beers and smoking cigarettes after their strong win against Jefke, the goal keeper started to feel more comfortable in his new position and the team itself started to show more composure on the pitch. Fighting on every ball, challenging every header and putting pressure on Bristish United.
And as said before, the squad was strong. So strong that after those three moments of hesitation almost no ball had a chance to pass Smooth operator, Guido of the night and Bonbon pour le moral, neither to enter the box. The back three and the midfield was solid but we were struggling to create clear chances. We had a few that their keeper cleared as well. Welcoming on the pitch our substitutes, including the new belgian recruit of RBBFC, Diego Pineapple, didn’t change the game neither the score. And this was on *this score null and virgin***, already the third one of the season that the game ended.
Disappointment for the result as well as for the table, where the team only shows six points, were soon replaced by an amazing post-game atmosphere with a lot of guests. The announcement of Bonbon future fatherhood was definitely THE highlight of the showers. For sure RBBFC next generations of warriors is on its way.
Your reporter and MOM: D. Magaud.
