I assume that a lot of people wake up on the morning after their wedding and are (a) hungover and (b) in a rush to pack for their honeymoon. I woke up with neither of those issues. I had boldly (but successfully) persuaded my wife to postpone the wedding party until after Saturday's game. Quite a risky move considering that a significant proportion of the guests were RBBFC members and if results didn't go our way then the mood later that night would have been negatively impacted. You know what they say though, big risk, big reward.

There were hugs all around when I arrived at Rosieres. Frisky and Al were in town for the celebrations and the squad was in a good spirits following a decent recent run of results.

Once in the changing room, though, Rich made sure we regained our focus. Line-up was delivered and we were encouraged to continue our strong run. Keep improving, keep the attitude good, keep working hard and we can make the most of consecutive home games.

The day almost got off to a perfect start as well. Long throw from Jean was allowed to bounce inside the 6-yard box. I arrived late from outside the area and, honestly, thought i was about to wrap up a biased mom vote within the first 5 mins of the game. All I had to do was nod the ball past the keeper from close range and we'd be 1 up. From elation to confusion though as, out of nowhere, the keeper managed to throw one of his limbs in the way and deflect the ball over for a corner. Had he not read the script?!

The rest of the half proved to be a frustrating one. We weren't doing a good enough job of keeping possession anywhere on the pitch. LTC were more mobile and had us pegged back for big portions of the half. Only positive was that despite LTC dominating possession we continued to show how difficult we are to break down and restricted them to long shots which weren't going to bother Super Kris between the sticks. 0-0 Half time.

Half time team talk was positive, full of encouragement and clear instruction on how to improve things. Myself and James were to be braver and push forward on the wings and Thibault was going to drop deeper to receive the ball and pull strings.

Thankfully we didn't have to wait long for the breakthrough. Even better, I was lucky enough to provide it. An RBBFC attack was cleared by LTC only for Spencer to come through and win a strong challenge just outside the box. The ball squirmed through and I hit a first-time, curling shot into the opposite corner. I know it's selfish but damn that felt good. 1-0 and we never looked back.

The game from there was a one-sided affair. Defensively Jean, Sylvain, Dex and Spence were solid as a rock. Thibault and Rich started to take total control of the middle. Nils was holding the ball up superbly, James and I were supporting much higher up the pitch and Daniel was finding space in behind their defense. We kept possession for long spells, regularly breaking the LTC offside trap to get in behind and create dangerous opportunities. It didn't take long for the second goal to arrive when a break down the left hand side was pulled back for Daniel who finished neatly in the opposite corner. 2-0.

Tommy came on to replace Danny and provided another injection of attacking urgency and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet immediately after finding himself behind the LTC defense only for his looping effort to clear the bar.

Perhaps feeling overly confident, I blasted a couple of long-range shots high and wide before making way for Kev who came in to finish the game strong. It was captain Rich who duly obliged with the 3rd goal when another passing move allowed him to drive through and, 1 on 1 with the keeper, finish low at the near post. A nice team goal to end a really positive second half performance. The ref blew up to put LTC out of their misery and RBBFC retired to the warmth of the bar.

MoM voting was dominated by Hodgy - perhaps due to his goal, perhaps due to the update of his marital status. Any 1 of Kris, Sylvain or Thibault may well have taken the honours on any other weekend. Regardless, we continue to improve and string together some clean sheets and victories.

Of course I can't end this report without mentioning the party which was, without doubt, a huge success. RBBFC dominated proceedings at Grand Central well into the early hours. As Nils said, circa 2.30am, "We are the best club. Not only because we have the best players but because we have the best people". Couldn't agree more. Played a huge part in making my weekend about as good as it gets.

Bring on 2018.
