A 2-0 win away to Cosmos Molenbeek this afternoon has enabled Vets1 to clinch the Division 6B title and secure promotion into the top Vets division next season, inching past Molenbeek who finish the season 2nd, 1 point behind us.

In a game which reflected various themes that have been with us all season, 2 nearly identical goals from Simon Yearsley - headers from excellent Mike Gutierrez crosses - made the difference, although we were the better team, combining well from the start, and above all wanting to win the ball back if they had it. As in previous crucial games, everyone raised their game and the collective spirit won through.

This is not the moment to comment on the curious decisions which led to Carl and Ulrik heading for an early bath, nor the penalty Cosmos were awarded in the 78th (!) minute, nor the incident which led to Johann coming off just 5 minutes after coming on.

We should talk about Tommy's saves, Tom's tackles, Roger's headers, Julio's speed, Carl's guts, Ian's control, Mike's crosses, wee Brian's work rate, Ulrik's physique, Jean-Louis's selfless running off the ball, Simon's finishing, big Brian's defending, Johann's selfless attempts to talk about the team after the game rather than his own actions, and Andy Pugh's calm in the box (even if the ref saw it differently).
