After a great victory over Forestois, this match seemed very much within our grasp. The dressing room was given a boost when the 1st team handed over Massi to his rightful place. Massi has been a lucky mascot for Vets 1, when he plays we win was the cry. This was arguably the strongest team we have put out all season against a team we drew against 1st time round.

Vets 1 started very brightly indeed and looked much the stronger team although with their organized defence, they were difficult to break down. Vets1 were getting all the possession and making some nice moves especially down the right, with Ledbury in an unaccustomed position at right back finding plenty of space in their half (there’s a novelty!) From one of these moves our new striker Ramon saw a decent headed effort fly just over the bar.

After 15 minutes or so Neilo pulled up with a pulled calf muscle and had to come off to be replaced by the ever present Gooner, Johann. It took him by surprise and he looked alittle reluctant to come on as he was scoffing Sue’s delegue cake at the time and takes him 5 minutes to take his tracky bottoms off in case he pulls something, (don’t laugh its happened before!)

The rest of the 1st half passed quietly without incident seeing Vets 1 still dominant but not looking potent enough in the last 3rd. Half-time 0-0

The 2nd half started much like the 1st and as time went on Vets 1 were just camped in their half, occasionally having to be careful with an odd Forestois break away. However in one such move a seemingly harmless attack saw Brian Morris slightly mis-timed a clearance and unfortunately landed directly at the feet of their striker who took a swipe, clearly mis kicked it only to find the ball looping agonizingly over the advancing Tommy.

This is the way it has been going recently, but in fairness the lads did not put their heads down. Richard K came on up front and Simon switched to an attacking right midfield position which saw plenty of attacking moves again down the right. Brian L was coming more into the game on the left as well as Vets 1 pushed for an equalizer. A big shout for a blatant hand-ball in their box was turned down by the ref (surprise, surprise) and as the game reached the final whistle it seemed inevitable that Vets1 would not get their deserved equalizer against a weak opposition albeit an organized defence.

The dressing room was the most subdued we’ve witnessed all season as everyone knew this was 3 points lost in our attempt to avoid relegation

MOM was a close run thing with Carl coming out on top presumably to keep him happy in his new, exciting role at full back!!
