Last minute penalty save denies 2nds a well deserved point
FC Tourinnois2 - RBBFC2 3-2
The composition of the team was: Steve Williams (GK), Carsten Schierenbeck (Capt.), Johan Eriksen, Marcello Salverani, Lynwood Griffith (playing coach), Jean-Baptiste Charvet, Pieter Marinus, Matthew Ellison, Ian Hoskins, Volker Brockmann, Dave McDermott.
After 4 drop-outs from the line-up and the coach having to make up the Eleven, it seemed we would face a touch challenge. And when FC Tourrinois 2 placed a nice header in the net to go 1-0 up, it looked like self-fulfilling prophecy. But then everybody was fighting to get three points. Playing coach Griff burned the whole firework in the first 15 minutes, so he swapped with J-B who then helped out in the defense to keep up with the opposition’s young kids. Volker scored nicely from a steep angle and Ian put in a great header. Pieter cleared the air in midfield as always. The efforts were rewarded and we were 2-1 up.
Second half, we suffered from fighting against the wind and the lack of training attendance. FC Tourinnois efficiently capitalized from a dropped off ball and a bit sloppy positioning to turn the match to 2-3. The whole team threw everything forward to avoid the looming defeat. It nearly paid off when we were awarded a last minute penalty. The usual options for the penalty spot were half-injured and signed off and Griff’s confidence was not shared by others, which meant that the captain took the ball. He could have rescued a point, the shot was on target but it wasn’t got enough and not meant to be.
Unlucky defeat, but there was a big improvement in performance. Let’s build on it. This time, we couldn’t clinch a well-deserved point, but we’ll keep all three when they come to Rosieres.
