grumpy encounter on a bitch of a pitch

After a morale boosting draw away to difficult opposition Ledbury lead the able, disabled and the unfit to face the Everberg bobble. Opposing, Jeunesse St G
a motley crew of questionable temperament with wails and shoulder shrugs abundant.
Ledbury opted for a 3-5-2 formation with experience and goals warming the bench.
Kick off and shooting downwind early indications were the bobble was on top, it was midfield pinball with rare opportunities for Cunningham and Griffith to add to their tallies. Bentham was his usual marauding expletive self on the right but quality ball was rare, on one occasion bursting through with an attempted deft chip when one on one with the oncoming keeper pulling off a fine save. Lewis then tried to dribble through the defence only for last man to deny a pot at goal , then followed it with low weak shot that the bobble did not intervene to trouble the keeper.
The opposition were contained there only outlet a long ball up to a skilful speedy forward. His darting runs were chaperoned by Morris into the bowels of Wrigley and White combining to support and snuff out any promise. Adams was well protected and in control
pulling off a rare save, he tipped over a fine Jeunesse free kick bound for the top corner with athletic prowess. A stoic Macdonald always had command of any long high balls in defence.
In attack a calculated opportunist strike from Cunningham from wide on the left almost caught the Jeunesse goalkeeper only for it to sail just over.
Half time 0-0 with tempers still in tact.
The second half followed much the same as the first nip and tuck it was not that would be far too tidy. Lost possession by both sides creating friction in midfield as
Ledbury and Glover battled to contain and pass the ball, Lewis was managing to
run around the opposition sometimes the same one a few times but final balls were lacking quality.
GOAL, from not a lot Jeunesse floated a free kick from half way over the defence direct to an unmarked forward. Who with some aplomb deftly first timed it to redirect the falling ball over an on coming Adams into the far corner, 0-1 undeserving on balance but a sucker punch..
The impetus was now on Vets 1 to force the play, Harbusch and Waite joined the fray for Glover and Griffith, and White was pushing forward from defence. With the anti up the and a more aggressive approach the opposition toys were soon out the pram. Bentham had decided on a do bit of "randonnee" over a prostrate left backs back much to his displeasure. Ledbury then incurred another yellow to stem the blood from a recent opposition rather violent mistimed tackle on him.
A rare link up than saw the newly introduced Harbush force a fine save from their keeper, further sorties were forcing Jeunesse on the back foot. With the clock running down tenacity from Lewis forced a corner , Bentham put a fine in the middle of the box for Macdonald to rise in a crowded area and head down. GOAL with a crowded goal line ahead it dropped to Harbusch who drilled it into the net from close range, 1-1.
A well deserved equaliser and more Jeunesse toys came out the pram drat and double drat as Harbusch taunted the opposition. So the ref decided to blow up to calm the tempers and send us to the bar. Lewis just edged White in the mom vote.
A draw was a fair result in the end in a scrappy sometimes grumpy encounter on a bitch of a pitch, pray for rain.
