The 4ths put in a dogged performance on Saturday to beat LXG Cinquentenaire 1-0 and haul themselves off the foot of the table. Adjusting to yet another new line-up and having to soak up heavy pressure in the first half, the whites were brighter after the break. A Neil Wright corner was scrambled clear but his follow-up was met by Will Jeremiah at the near post who headed in through a crowd. A goal up with 20 minutes to play, we grew in confidence to dig in and break down wave after wave of Cinquentenaire attacks, helped by midfielders Wright and Alec Norton playing just in front of the back four and by the relentless hassling of Will Denholm. On the occasions the ball got past them, the defence mopped up and Sergio Tache, making a rare appearance in goal, handled confidently. Another win and the right results elsewhere and the 4ths will be approaching lower mid-table respectability.
