The stereotypical European view of a game between two British teams is one of lots of endeavor, lots of tackles and little football. Well, they're right. This was a game played almost exclusively in the midfield.
Both teams wanted to play football, Oli "The Sloth" Duncan had a couple of runs with the ball, with one very nice piece of control to pull the ball out of the air, Herrity and Joliffe tried to play some balls behind their defence. The British Utd defence though, managed to get toe-ins and interceptions at the crucial moments. They proceeded to attack us only for our defence of Eryouk, Knudsen and eventual MOM McCreathto do exactly the same and snuff out the move before it threatened the goal. A few corners and one long shot that went wide of our post was the total threat for the 1st half. So, basically the 1st half was a constant swapping of possession between two evenly matched teams. In fact the most notable thing about the half was that Sergio "The Cat" Tache seemed to discover the secret of kicking a ball further than 10 yards.
The second half started with the introduction of Yuriy ‘Shrek’ Shpek for the injured Knudsen. Unfortunately the second half continued in the same way as the 1st, with little in goalmouth action. The injured Pellegry was replaced by Matt "Cow" Williams, the only player in existence who can give the opposition CJD. So, now on the pitch we had a Cat, a Cow, a Den Warthog, a Sloth, a Fitz Gibbon and Shrek, could this menagerie of talent overcome a distinctly human British Utd ?
Nah, British Utd actually played some decent football on the half way line which released their forward into space with just the keeper to beat, it was a good finish, nice low shot across the keeper into the far side of the goal.
RBBFC started to threaten a bit more, John Fitzgibbon was winning the ball in the air and Oli Duncan was getting on the end of the flick-ons, but like the 1st half the British Utd defence managed to sweep things up effectively. British Utd had a man sent off for flicking the referee’s little black book after being yellow carded but this was only 5 minutes from the end and had little affect on the game.
In Summary a game where a draw would have been the fairest result. Strangely after this game we were still top of the league.
